Main Street Iowa and the Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA) offer the Main Street Iowa Challenge Grant each year.

Funds are awarded to eligible applicants for bricks and mortar projects within a designated Main Street district. Each program is able to nominate one (1) project from their district.

The PRIMARY goals of the MSI Challenge Grant are:

  1. Stimulate appropriate building rehabilitation of historic commercial buildings in Main Street districts

  2. Create a positive climate for additional district investment

  3. Support local revitalization efforts

  4. Demonstrate "Main Street at work" in the local community

  5. Provide local Main Street programs with an exclusive financial incentives program

  6. Create additional jobs and business growth

These goals will be achieved through:

  1. Quality historic property rehabilitation

  2. Creating unique business locations

  3. Creating upper story housing opportunities

  4. Context sensitive infill development

  5. Strategic investment by IEDA into key local projects

  6. Research and utilization of appropriate available financial resources/programs

  7. Creating local job and business opportunities

Each year, Main Street Waterloo reviews applications and potential projects. If you are interested, please contact Jessica Rucker at (319) 291-2038 or director@mainstreetwaterloo.org or complete the application below. Applications are due in June to be considered.

This is a great place to tell your story and give people more insight into who you are, what you do, and why it’s all about you.
