BBQ'Loo and Blues, Too!
The 9th annual BBQ'Loo and Blues Too! will be held July 16 & 17, 2010 in Lincoln Park at the
corner of Mulberry and East 4th Streets in downtown Waterloo.
The event is free and open to the public; with vending, family activities, and entertainment both evenings from 5:30 until 9:30.
BBQ'Loo and Blues, Too! has been designated by Governor Chet Culver as an official State Championship, which will allow the contestants with the qualifying number of points to enter the National Championship competition.
The Barbecue contest is also sanctioned as a qualifying event by the Kansas City Barbecue Society (KCBS) and will be following those rules for judging in four categories including Brisket, Chicken, Pork ribs and Pork shoulder/Boston Butt.
There is a "just-for-fun" Chili competition using a ballot system on Friday.
The event is expected to draw 40 teams. Contestants in previous years have come from across the Midwest states and as far away as Canada. Barbecue teams will compete for $10,000 in cash and prizes.
Friday night there will be additional competition in a chili category. Visitors to the event will have the opportunity to purchase "tasting ballots", allowing a taste of the spicy brew from each of several participants. The tasters will be the judges – let the best chili win! It should be a gas!
There will be also be activities and entertainment both evenings, including a terrific lineup of blues music that will be free and open to the public. The bands this year will be: Friday from 5:30--9:30 pm, the Avey Brothers Band and Saturday from 5:30--9:30 pm, The Mark Shelby band.
