Takin'
It To The Streets:
A Downtown
Revitalization Celebration!
The
changes and improvements in Downtown Waterloo are
definitely something that makes people take
notice. With the completion of the East 4th
Street streetscape improvements, buildings getting
facelifts and new businesses opening their doors,
we decided to show off and throw a
party. At
our Takin' It To The Street event on September 26,
2009 people explored
Downtown Waterloo, seeing new places and
remembering
th ose
from their past. With games, face painting,
hair coloring,
sidewalk sales, live music from WAGG, hula
hooping, a
free
trolley ride and tasty food samples there was
plenty to see and do. Whether you are a
regular at one of our great establishments or
maybe you hadn't been Downtown in awhile, we hope
you had a great Downtown Experience!

Black's Is Back
Roux Orleans, Bourre
Lounge, Sky Event Centre
It was great to celebrate the opening
of Roux Orleans, Bourre Lounge, and the Sky Event
Centre in the Black's Building on September
30. Black's Department Store was a staple in
many peoples lives and the memories come flooding
back when you visit the renovated Black's
Building. With the Bourre Lounge on the ground floor, Roux Orleans Bourbon Street
Grille on the mezzanine and the Sky Event Centre on the 8th
floor, people can enjoy these new Downtown venues,
while sharing fond memories and making new
ones.
Everyone who
sees
this space will agree that the time,
money, and energy put into this project by the
Nelson family and Darin
Beck of Barmuda Corp. was well
worth it! This is a great anchor
for the renaissance of Downtown
Waterloo. |

Tour de 'Loo
Success
Main Street Waterloo had another
successful Tour de 'loo event on Thursday, October
8. During the tour participants were invited
into buildings that have been recently renovated
and those that are still works in progress.
Throughout the tour people were able to share
their past experiences, generate new ideas for the
future and learn the varied and interesting
history of our Downtown. Not only did people
get to explore these great spaces, but many people
walked away with prizes they won by visiting our
spaces.
The tour included: the Former
Newton's Jewelers Building (128 East 4th
Street), Beau Monde Boutique
& Salon (224 East
4th Street), Greater Cedar Valley Chamber (10 West
4th Street - River Plaza
Building),
Iowa Veterans Museum/Grout
Museum (503 South Street), HQAA/ Former Walker
Shoe Building (114 East 4th Street), Former
Mandarin Cafe (512 Mulberry Street), Iowa Hospice
(626 Commercial Street), and the Roux
Orleans/Bourre Lounge/Sky Event Centre, and
Blacks Apartments (501 Sycamore Street). By
touring these buildings, we
continue to see the great successes that are happening right here in our own
backyard.
